Writerly Thoughts

I Can’t Believe I’ve Actually Been Doing THIS.

I…have been writing a short story.

Yes, you read that right. Me. Writing a short story. I haven’t written a short story in years, not since one of the first creative writing classes I took when I was in college. And that was in something like 2005 or 2006.

But sometimes, I get these ideas. And most of the time, I end up discarding them because I have no clue what I’m doing when it comes to writing short stories, because I’m so badly out of practice with them. But I still decided to give this one a whirl, mainly because it’s about a bit character I’ve re-introduced in Redemption (book five in The Becoming Series, for those of you keeping track at home), and I really want to know more about him, so I sat down and started tinkering, and I’ve not only learned a bit more about him and his personality (at least enough to get me going for his bigger role in Bloodlines), but I’ve also introduced another new character in the story who is a bit interesting herself.

So that’s what I’ve spent my past couple of weeks doing: writing a short story. I have no idea if it will be any good. I have no idea if anyone would even want to read it. I’m still trying to decide what I want to do with it when I’m done, too.

One of my thoughts, since I look to possibly be on track to finish it by then, is to post it on Halloween here on the blog as a fun freebie for the holiday. Is this something you guys would be interested in reading?

If it goes well, and if I can think of more story ideas in the future, I may start making free stories on the blog a regular thing. Ideally, I’d want to post a short story once every couple of months or so, some of them related to my currently available series (you can think of those as “side quests,” to use video game parlance), and some of them just random story ideas that I need to get out of my head but might not make a good full-length book.

So what do you think? Do semi-regular features of short stories here on the blog sound like something you would be interested in? Let me know in the comments!

Also, just in case you missed my last post: I’m now offering autographed bookplates through my Payhip store for those of you who already own one of my physical books and want it autographed! You can check out more details about that by clicking here!
